Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) techniques
ACT is a psychological intervention that falls under the broader umbrella of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ACT emphasizes acceptance of thoughts and feelings, mindfulness, and commitment to values-driven action.
NET(Natural Environment Teaching)
NET is a method used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to teach skills in the learner’s natural environment, such as their home, school, or community settings. Unlike discrete trial training (DTT), which is typically conducted in a structured and controlled environment, NET involves embedding teaching opportunities into the learner’s everyday activities and routines. This approach aims to promote generalization of skills by teaching them in contexts where they are naturally occurring, thus increasing the likelihood of the learner using those skills in real-life situations. NET is often used to teach a wide range of skills, including communication, social interaction, and daily living skills.
PRT (Pivotal Response Treatment)
It is an evidence-based intervention approach within the framework of ABA that focuses on targeting pivotal areas of a child’s development to produce widespread improvements in various behaviors. It emphasizes motivation, responsiveness to multiple cues, self-management, and the initiation of social interactions as pivotal skills to address in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.
Precision teaching
Precision Teaching is a method used within Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to measure and improve the fluency of skills. It involves frequent and systematic measurement of a learner’s performance on specific skills using a standard unit of measurement, such as the number of correct responses per minute. Based on these measurements, instructional strategies are adjusted to maximize learning and improve performance. Precision Teaching emphasizes the importance of individualized instruction, frequent data collection, and the use of behavioral principles to achieve mastery and fluency in targeted skills.
DTT (Discrete Trial Training)
DTT is a teaching method commonly used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. It involves breaking down skills into small, discrete steps and teaching each step individually. Each trial consists of a specific instruction or cue, a response from the learner, and immediate feedback or reinforcement. DTT is often structured, repetitive, and focused on teaching specific skills, such as language, social, or academic skills, to individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities.
