Behavior Management: involves a comprehensive approach to address your child’s behavioral needs
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA): We conduct FBAs to understand the root causes of problem behaviors and develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
Preventative Strategies: Our approach includes implementing preventative measures such as daily schedules, teaching appropriate communication skills, offering breaks, providing choices, and varying instructional tasks to minimize triggers and prevent negative behaviors.
Reinforcement Strategies: We use reinforcement techniques such as verbal praise, social reinforcement, and customized reward systems to encourage and reinforce positive behaviors. Preference assessments help us identify effective motivators for your child.
Management Strategies: Our focus is on managing inappropriate behaviors to decrease their occurrence in the future. We prioritize antecedent interventions to modify the environment and implement proactive strategies to mitigate maladaptive behaviors.
Through these evidence-based strategies, we aim to foster the development of functionally and socially appropriate behaviors in your child, ensuring a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
Communication & Language skills
Through Applied Behavior Analysis, children learn language functionally (using language to request, using language to label, etc.) Starting with the basic wants and needs (simple nouns), children are taught to request, label, imitate, and more in the first stages of language development. Once the early learning targets are met, language is taught with more complexity, incorporating nouns with verbs and adjectives, while still focusing on the function. As language development continues, children build conversational skills, social skills, and independence.
The VB-MAPP and other related communication assessments are conducted and individualized communication programming is developed.
Verbal behavior training is frequently utilized during sessions in a discrete, 1:1 setting to teach the different verbal operants used in peer-to-peer conversations. The basic verbal operants targeted include the following: Mand (requesting), Tact(labeling) , Motor Imitation(copying actions), echoics (copying sounds/words), listener responding (Following direction), Intraverbal ( Answering questions and commenting).

Feeding
Children with food selectivity go through a rigorous feeding program to expand variety of food and work on feeding skills. Key identifiers of food selectivity include:
- Limited variety of food choices
- Restricted range of textures consumed
- Inadequate food intake
- Gagging or retching in response to new foods
- Vomiting when presented with new foods
- Persistent refusal of certain foods
- Disruptive mealtime behavior
Our approach to addressing food selectivity incorporates family coordination and extends treatment to the home environment. Our ultimate goal is to promote acceptance of a wider variety of foods, facilitate family mealtime participation, and enhance overall nutritional intake.
Family involvement is integral to the effectiveness of our treatment. We emphasize collaboration with families to ensure consistency and support in implementing strategies aimed at improving eating habits.
Areas targeted within our feeding program include:
- Expanding the variety of foods and liquids consumed
- Improving chewing skills
- Encouraging self-feeding abilities
- Increasing food volume intake
- Promoting the use of utensils
- Reducing episodes of vomiting
- Facilitating cup drinking skills
Through tailored interventions and ongoing support, we strive to help individuals overcome food selectivity challenges and achieve positive outcomes in their eating habits and overall well-being.
Early Intervention
An individualized and intensive early intervention program is implemented, focusing on communication, social, life, and school-readiness skills. We also implement the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), an evidence-based approach proven to enhance outcomes for children with ASD aged 12 to 48 months. This model emphasizes improving social communication and interaction skills through play-based activities and joint attention, with active involvement of parents in therapy sessions.
